DERM Visit - Arrow Energy's Environmental Authority

This Thursday 4th of November we have arranged for Stephen Trent & Louise Jordan; representatives from DERM (Department of Environment & Resource Management) in Brisbane, to be at "Cowan" 541 Clapham Rd. (Graham & Wendy Clapham's residence), to discuss Arrow Energy's Application for an Environmental Authority for ATP683 and the subsequent granting of this Authority.

Those of us who made a submission on this application have been unsure how our concerns have been dealt with, and whether or not our issues were taken into account before the granting of this environmental authority. This is an opportunity to demonstrate to DERM personnel our concerns with granting Arrow Energy an authority to construct dams to store hazardous waste in ATP683, and to better understand options available to object to the granting of this authority.

All who are interested please fill free to attend at 10am so we can discuss these important issues with the personnel from DERM who are responsible for granting this authority.

It is important that we follow up on our submissions, particularly when we have the attention of DERM personnel here in our region.

Arrow Energy Environmental Authority Update

This week a number of people have been advised in writing by DERM, that Arrow Energy has been granted a level one environmental authority (chapter 5A activities). The application for this environmental authority appeared in a number of newspapers during June 2010. A number of concerned persons made submissions to DERM on this application which included authorisation for a high hazard dam and a waste disposal facility.

The DERM information sheet accompanying the decision notice outlines the procedure for applying for a review of this decision by a dissatisfied person. This application must be made within 10 business days after the day on which the person received notice on the original decision. A dissatisfied person  who is dissatisfied with the review decision may then appeal through the Land Court. This seems to be quite an involved process.

The notice advising that the application has been granted provides no information on how and if submissions were considered. Save our Darling Downs urges those persons who have made submissions on this application to contact Stephen Trent at DERM on
07-33305606,
whose name is given as a contact on the decision notice; and enquire how their concerns have been addressed prior to granting this application.
